At Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care, LLC our certified caregivers engage our clients in many mind stimulating activities, games and puzzles. We are known for our compassionate care for our clients. Our clients are our family!
Research has suggested that mind stimulating activities such as cross word puzzles, word games and music help slow the progression of Alzheimer’s. Through different studies, researchers have found that mental stimulation has actually been beneficial for people with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s.
In fact, the results of these studies showed that those with Alzheimer’s & Dementia who participated in mind stimulating activities showed a six to nine month delay in worsening of symptoms. Also, those who participated in the activities had an increase of feeling better, improved communication and interactions with those around them. Mental stimulation did not appear to improve mood or improve the ability to care for themselves.
Activities help by stirring memories, fostering emotional connections to others, encourages self-expression, lessens anxiety and helps to make one feel more engaged in life.
It’s important to do meaningful activities. When participating in activities with your loved one, it’s important to remember what interests your loved one had in the past. Activities a person once enjoyed may become overwhelming or even frustrating now. Patience is key!
